On 19.05.2023 NOTIONES project organised another webinar, which was co-hosted by the popAI project. The topic of the event was developed based upon the existing concerns among security and intelligence practitioners that AI based algorithms can contain bias and therefore lead to discrimination when used in AI-powered policing. Moreover, surveillance and predictive policing through AI are claimed to be the most controversial trend, but one that has important implications for the future of cities and societies. Against this background NOTIONES and popAI organized a webinar, which provided an overview of best practices and experiences with the application by law enforcement agencies across Europe of AI and algorithmic tools for policing. The event aimed to also shed light on existing challenges and gaps and related innovation solutions.
popAI project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101022001 and aims to boost trust in AI by increasing awareness and current social engagement, consolidating distinct spheres of knowledge by academics and non-academics, and delivering a unified European view and recommendations. The project will create an ecosystem and the structural basis for a sustainable and inclusive European AI hub for LEAs. This represents for NOTIONS an excellent opportunity to establish collaboration with other organisations and project from across Europe and disseminate information on its results and ensure their sustainable exploitation by the security and intelligence practitioners.
The video recording of the webinar as well as the presentations from the event can be found on NOTIONES project website.
