Key findings

This methodology allows to develop new understanding about a specific area that can expand the knowledge about an area, especially with untypical connections, new aspects, factors, phenomena, events, different from what is usually associated with a given issue. The tool allows to capture local circumstances and understanding of a given area which later was expected to shape the decision-making process. It allows to gain knowledge related to relevant issues and identify the community aspects that are often overlooked by other approaches. Local communities often have valuable knowledge about their locality. It is specific to the place, personal experiences, behaviours, cultural values and beliefs. The knowledge held by local residents may not be available in larger forums or official repositories, it is a quiet knowledge inaccessible in a decision-making process. Building trust is a crucial element in the process. If there is no trust between the participants than it is difficult to implement CM. If the process isn’t implemented correctly and there is no trust from the participants to the institution responsible for implementing CM then it may be seen as a way to spy, gather intelligence and keep under surveillance some members of the community.
