Lucas J. Ruiz has a sound knowledge of European Union’s affairs and Law, in particular regarding the external dimension of the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice and the Common Security and Defence Policy. He obtained his PhD in Public International Law and International Relations from the University of Granada in 2015. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Granada (2004) and another one in Law from the UNED (2020), and a Master’s Degree in European Politics (External Affairs) from the Université libre de Bruxelles (2005). He has published more than 20 articles and books on security-related issues and the construction of the European defence. Actually, he is a Lecturer in International Relations in the University of Granada.

Practical Experience
He completed his academic background with internships in International Organizations (Council of Europe, 2008; CTED-United Nations, 2009; Eurojust, 2010; and the European Parliament, 2013) and accomplished short-term research stays at centres of international recognition, such as the Groupe de recherche et d'information sur la paix et la sécurité (GRIP) in Brussels, 2011; the Institute for European Studies of the Université libre de Bruxelles, Bruselas (Bélgica), 2010-2011; and the Université Paris 1 Panthéon - Sorbonne (Centre d'Études et recherches en Droit international), 2009, Paris. From May 2017 to September 2018, he also accomplished a post-doc research staty at the Institute for European Studies of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
Expertise Offered
Expertise on radicalisation prevention and processes towards violent extremism, in particular concerning young people and minors. Expertise on the means established within the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice of the EU and its external action.
